The Nevada County Collaborative Divorce Practice Group is a group of independent professionals working together to assist divorcing couples resolve all issues in a respectful and resourceful way. When there are children, couples often need the training in problem solving that is modeled during the process as the team works to resolve all issues.

The Practice Group includes attorneys, mental health professionals, and neutral financial advisors. Initial membership in the group requires specific training in the collaborative process, and ongoing membership requires obtaining additional training in the process.

The Collaborative Team consists of the Parties, each of their attorneys, each of their divorce coaches, a financial advisor who is neutral, and a child specialist (if necessary). Of the team members, the Parties are the most important, and entry into the process requires a high standard of commitment on their part.

The contract entered into when the process begins specifically states that all team members shall work toward resolution of the issues facing the parties. To underscore the importance of this commitment there is also an agreement that none of the professionals involved will be involved in the litigation in the event full agreements are not reached. The attorneys shall not represent the parties in litigation, and the other professionals shall not be called as witnesses in the case. That contract strengthens the commitment to work toward solving all issues by agreement.
